Project Background
Morocco is a strategic hub for non-metallic mineral processing in North Africa. The client, a leading regional construction material supplier, aimed to upgrade their production to high-value ultrafine powders. The goal was to supply the premium paint, paper, and plastic modification industries through an efficient Limestone ultrafine grinding process.
Core Project Parameters:
- Material: Limestone (Calcium Carbonate)
- Equipment: Epic Powder Ball Mill + Vertical Multi-Rotor Classifier System
- Target Fineness: D90} = 5 – 10 μm
- Production Capacity: 20 t/h
- Applications: Industrial fillers, specialty coatings, and paper-grade fillers.
Core Challenges & Solutions

1. Scaling Capacity with Ultra-precision
Achieving a 20 t/h output while maintaining a D90 between 5 and 10 microns (equivalent to 1250–2500 mesh) is a significant technical challenge for traditional classification systems.
- The Solution: Epic Powder utilized a Ball Mill + Multi-Wheel Classifier configuration. By using multiple high-efficiency classifying rotors working in parallel, the system ensures a massive air-to-powder ratio even at ultra-fine settings, breaking the capacity bottleneck typical of single-rotor systems.
2. Energy Efficiency: Reducing Power Consumption per Ton
In large-scale mineral processing, electricity is the primary operational cost.
- The Solution: The ball mill’s internal liner geometry and grinding media graduation (size mixing) were optimized. Combined with an advanced frequency control system, the line reduces energy consumption per ton by 15% – 20% compared to conventional grinding technologies.
3. Wear Resistance and Whiteness Protection
While limestone has moderate hardness, prolonged friction during ultrafine grinding can introduce metallic contaminants that dull the powder’s color.
- The Solution: The system uses high-alumina ceramic liners in the ball mill and zirconia ceramics or high-polymer wear-resistant materials for the classifier wheels. This comprehensive ceramic protection ensures the equipment’s longevity and preserves the natural whiteness of the limestone.
