El yeso crudo, o sulfato de calcio dihidratado (Ca[SO\u2084]\u00b72H\u2082O), tambi\u00e9n se conoce como CaSO\u2084\u00b72H\u2082O blando, yeso hidratado o sulfato de calcio dihidratado. Pertenece al sistema cristalino monocl\u00ednico, con cristales laminares t\u00edpicamente densos o fibrosos. Su color var\u00eda del blanco al gris, rojo o marr\u00f3n. Adem\u00e1s, presenta un brillo v\u00edtreo o sedoso, una dureza de Mohs de 2 y una densidad de 2,3 g\/cm\u00b3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por otro lado, el yeso anhidrita es sulfato de calcio anhidro (Ca[SO\u2084]). Presenta un sistema cristalino ortorr\u00f3mbico y cristales laminares, generalmente densos o granulares. Su color es blanco o gris claro, con brillo v\u00edtreo. Adem\u00e1s, su dureza de Mohs es de 3-3,5 y su densidad oscila entre 2,8 y 3,0 g\/cm\u00b3. Los cristales bien desarrollados se suelen denominar yeso transparente. El alabastro fibroso o en bloques con un brillo sedoso se conoce como yeso fibroso. En algunas zonas con amplios entornos de crecimiento, los cristales de alabastro pueden incluso formar cristales gigantes, de hasta varios metros de longitud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-gypsum-uses\">Usos del yeso<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>El yeso es un material vers\u00e1til, tanto industrial como de construcci\u00f3n, con m\u00faltiples usos. Se puede utilizar como retardante en el cemento. Tambi\u00e9n se utiliza en productos de construcci\u00f3n a base de yeso, en la fabricaci\u00f3n de maquetas y como aditivo alimentario y farmac\u00e9utico. El yeso desempe\u00f1a un papel fundamental en la producci\u00f3n de \u00e1cido sulf\u00farico. Tambi\u00e9n se utiliza como relleno en papel y pintura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La estructura microporosa del alabastro, junto con su capacidad de deshidratarse al calentarse, le confiere excelentes propiedades. Proporciona insonorizaci\u00f3n, aislamiento t\u00e9rmico y resistencia al fuego. En la decoraci\u00f3n del hogar, el moldeado de alabastro es com\u00fan. Ofrece tanto atractivo est\u00e9tico como valor funcional. En caso de accidentes, se utilizan moldes de alabastro en hospitales. Ayudan a inmovilizar y curar fracturas \u00f3seas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El yeso tambi\u00e9n se usa ampliamente en el arte.
